The Mediterranean Forest Research Agenda ready
Mediterranean forest ecosystems provide multiple goods and services, but their future is threatened by marked climate and land use changes. Therefore, their sound management calls for improved knowledge, targeted education and capacity building.
The Mediterranean Forest Research Agenda (MFRA) 2010–2020 presents the challenges Mediterranean forests are facing and how science can best address them during the next decade.

EFIMED at the World Forestry Congress
The European Forest Institute has a stand in the Exhibition of the World Forestry Congress, to be held in Buenos Aires during next week. EFIMED will participate by collaborating with FAO Forestry department in the organisation of a serial of seminars and a side event on "Forests and Water" and "Forests in arid zones"

EFIMED mission in Croatia and Slovenia
During 23-27 September, EFIMED representatives Marc Palahi and Robert Mavsar visited our network members in Croatia and Slovenia: the EMUNI (EuroMediterranean University), the Slovenian Forestry Institute, Slovenian Ministry of Science, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, the future EFISEE (EFI Regional Office for the South East of Europe), FOPER II House as well as the Croatian Forestry Institute.
The MFRA was presented and on this framework emerged new possibilities for future projects and collaborations. One of the outcomes of this visit was that EFISEE and FOPER members will actively participate in the "Study on the Social and Private Profitability of Mediterranean Forests", coordinated by EFIMED.

EFIMED at the Spanish Forestry Congress
Every four years the Spanish Society of Forestry Sciences organises the Spanish Forestry Congress. Within this edition, held in Avila, Ms. Elena Górriz exposed the challenges and opportunities of the market-based intruments of forest externalities within the Round Table of Innovation in the forestry sector.

Fatal fire season in Greece
During last month thousend hectares of forest have burnt in Greece, causing environmental and social damages. "Governments won't be able to tackle them effectively if they keep pouring money into firefighting rather than tackling the root causes" said Marc Palahi to the Time. Read the article
