Improving the science-policy dialogue on the hot issue of forest fires
 The EFIMED Discussion paper Living with Wildfires: what science can tell us was
presented on 6th of May at the 109th Standing Forestry Committee
meeting in Brussels in order to highlight the most recent and important
scientific findings in relation to forest fires.

EFIMED signs a MoU with the Mediterranean Model Forest Network
On 12 May 2009, Dr Marc Palahí, Head of Office of EFIMED, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mediterranean Model Forest Network. EFIMED, as the voice of forest science in the Mediterranean region, will provide scientific expertise for the establishment of a network of territories in which the concept of Model Forest will be developed within the Mediterranean environment.

EFIMED and INIA strengthen their cooperation
EFIMED will act as an International Scientific Advisory Board in the new Spanish Strategic Project: Forest Management and Restoration, coordinated by Dr. Ricardo Alía, INIA (2008-2011).

ARCMED and EFIMED look for improved communication and networking
On 18 June, 2009 the General Assembly of the Mediterranean Association of Forest Owners (ARCMED) will take place in Aix-en-Provence, France. Dr. Yves Birot, Chairman of the EFIMED Advisory Group, will present the Mediterranean Forest Research Agenda and sign a MoU for promoting the science-forest owners dialogue.

Short Scientific Visits 2009
Four applications have been awarded. From June until November, young scientist from Mediterranean research institutes will visit another research group and will improve their capacities through this exchange.
