Forestry Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, she also holds a Master Degree in Agroecology. After a period working in a consultancy, she joined the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In the Research Group of Mediterranean Pastures and Sylvopastoral Systems she conducted field work for the economic valuation of grazing as a tool for wildfire preventive fuel management.

She holds degrees in Forest Conservation, Environmental Geography and Development Studies from the University of Toronto, Canada and University of Sussex, England. Prior to joining EFIMED, Ms Lucas worked on the Cost Benefit Analysis in EFORWOOD for CTFC, and as an environmental consultant in the fields of environmental and economic policy for EC funded programmes such as DG Environment and DG Enterprise.
