Advancing Mediterranean Forest research Capacities ‐ AGORA
Meeting the complex challenges related to the sustainable management of Mediterranean forests requires sufficient research capacities. However, forest research in the Mediterranean region has been traditionally handicapped by its fragmentation, its limited means, and occasional outdating and isolation. The AGORA Project will work to overcome this situation by advancing Mediterranean forest research capacities based on international research partnerships, efficient networking, and knowledge transfer.

Mushrooms might be up to ten times more profitable than timber in Mediterranean conditions
Mushrooms are an important non-timber product in many Mediterranean forests. In Catalonia, in places where the microclimate is reasonably moist, the value of mushrooms is clearly higher than the value of timber production. A study developed by EFIMED, CTFC and the University of Joensuu examines the optimal economic management for both timber and mushrooms in pine stands in Catalonia.
