Call open for EFIMED Short Scientific Visits 2012
With the aim of reinforcing networking in forest science in the Mediterranean, in 2012 EFIMED will fund internships of 2-4 weeks of young scientists among Mediterranean institutions. Call and application form are available here. Researchers from North African and Near East institutions as well as female scientists are specially encouraged to apply. Deadline: 28 February 2012.

EFIMED Week 2012 - call for posters
The forthcoming Scientific Seminar in Tunisia welcomes the participation of researchers and practitioners in form of poster presentations. This year there will be a section for scientific posters and another for development projects. The best scientific poster will be rewarded with an EFIMED Short Scientific Visit. The call is available here. Deadline: 28 February 2012.

Consolidating adaptive forest management knowledge in Fez
Graduate students and early stage researchers from ENFI (Morocco) and INRGREF (Tunisia) participated in the AGORA International Scientific Workshop "Methods and tools for participatory and adaptive forest management". This event was held from 5-7 December in Fez (Morocco).

EFIMED receives top award for forest fire protection
On 24 November, Marc Palahí and Robert Mavsar accepted the "Golden Fire Swatter" award in Madrid, Spain. Such recognition emphasizes the work EFI and EFIMED have done in promoting thematic research, advanced courses and the dissemination of scientific knowledge around the topic of wildfires among policy-makers, practitioners and young scientists.

Advancing cedar growth knowledge
Dr. Rafael Navarro and his team used the Mediterranean Model Forest Grant to investigate the ecology of the Atlas forest populations of the Model Forest of Ifrane (Morocco).

EFIMED received a request for help from Catalan TV, to work on a series of programmes about forests in Finland. Several short
documentaries have been broadcast during the autumn and are available
online.

Short scientific visit to Crete
Dr. Raquel Benavides has improved her knowledge of spatial statistics tools by spending a week at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) in Crete, Greece. The internship was granted by EFIMED as a result of her winning the Best Poster Award at the Scientific Seminar in Avignon in April 2011.
