A Succesful Second Mediterranean Forest Week
On April 5-8, the medieval city of Avignon hosted the successful Second Mediterranean Forest Week. 244 participants from all over the Mediterranean met in the magnificent Pope’s palace facilities and discuss about the strategic topics on our forests, emerging challenges as well as joint actions to address relevant forestry issues. In addition, policy relevant questions regarding other relevant sectors and policies where forests and forestry could play an important role where presented and discussed.

Water for Forests and People in the Mediterranean – A Challenging Balance

In connection with the second Mediterranean Forest Week, the European Forest Institute has launched a new book series titled What Science Can Tell Us. The first volume in the series has been coordinated by EFIMED and deals with the important question of water for forests and people in the Mediterranean.

EFIMED PhD award 2010
Dr. José Alberto Ramírez-Valiente received the EFIMED PhD Award for his work “Phenotypic plasticity and intraspecific genetic variation in Quercus suber: Evaluation using ecophysiological traits and molecular markers”.

EFIMED visits Bulgaria and California
Last January Dr. Marc Palahi visited the Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Forest Research Institute and the University of Sofia. In March an EFIMED delegation formed by Dr. Marc Palahi, Mr. Robert Mavsar and Dr. Santiago González visited the US Forest Service and the College of Natural Resources of the University of California. Both visits were held in the frame of the proposal for the ERA-NET.
