A Nematode Day dedicated to a vastly spreading problem of nematodes and damage caused by them was organized by EFI's Atlantic European Regional Office - EFIATLANTIC and CIF Lourizan with support from Xunta de Galicia, USSE and DEVESA during 12-13 January 2011 in Pontevedra Spain.

EU Timber Regulation project kicks off

The EU Timber Regulation prohibits the placing of illegally harvested timber and products on the EU market and requires the timber and timber products suppliers to the EU market to exercise "due diligence" to ensure the legality of the products. It also obliges all EU timber traders to keep records of who their suppliers and customers are to allow for traceability of their products. The Regulation applies to both imported and domestically harvested timber. EFI will carry out a study on due diligence system.

Pau Costa Foundation on Fire Ecology and Management inaugurated

“There is a need to establish a common platform in Europe, capitalizing on knowledge and experience attained by specialists in wild fire management and sharing it with others at national and international level”, says Marc Castellnou from the GRAF units of the Catalonian Fire Service. So far experiences were shared amongst fire management groups and research institutes through cross border training courses and exchanges.
