EFI Annual Conference gathered member organisations for decision-making and networking
The EFI Annual Conference gathered over 140 participants to Dresden on 15–17 September for decision-making and for networking. Decisions were taken on issues such as expanding EFI strategic activities to include policy advice and to elect two new Board members to the EFI Board.
Keynote speakers of the afternoon seminar on 'Future forest policy directions in Europe and the potential contributions by EFI to it' : Ilpo Tikkanen (EFI), Berit Hauger Lindstad (Liaison Unit Oslo, Forest Europe), Hubert Hasenauer (moderator, BOKU), Hilkka Summa (European Commission, DG Agri and Rural Development) and Ernst Schulte (European Commission, DG Environment)

New Board Chairman and two new members elected to EFI Board
Prof. Jørgen Bo Larsen from Denmark was elected as Chairman of the EFI Board. he has been a member of EFI Board since September 2009. Dr Liisa Saarenmaa continues as Vice-chairman of the Board. Prof.Dr Jean-Marc Guehl, INRA Nancy, France, and Prof.Dr Michael Köhl from the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries, Germany, were elected as new Board members for the period 2010–2013.

EFI strengthens its work on policy advice
Policy advice was approved as a new strategic function of EFI by the Annual Conference. This means that EFI will increasingly embark on activities that provide enhanced support for decision takers and policy makers.
