International Year of Forests 2011 - Celebrating Forests for People

The International Year of Forests will raise awareness and promote global action to sustainably manage, conserve and develop all types of forests, including trees outside of forests. EFI celebrates this special year by having various activities under the IYF logo: Mediterranean Forest Week, EFI Annual Conference and publications. EFI to host the EU REDD Facility

According to the contract signed by Director Risto Päivinen with Europe Aid on 22 December 2010, EFI will host the newly established EU REDD Facility. The EU REDD Facility aims at assisting developing countries by providing effective support to the emergence of REDD national frameworks, assisting the European Commission and the EU Member States in providing such an effective support, and helping developing countries in building their capacity and improving forest governance so as to help them meet their REDD objectives.

EFI Winter and Summer School (WSS) "Making values work – exploring multiple perspectives in understanding the valuation of forest ecosystems" invites doctoral students interested in forest profitability and the questions ‘what is forest profitability and how do we express and measure it?’ EFI’s WSS is a Winter and Summer School Model of graduate education aimed at creating collaborative research networks on topics of high relevance for forests and environment at the European scale.
